Carpenter Creek Cellars is the full realization of two dreams: Ed Courtright wanted to grow grapes in northern Indiana to supply wineries in the area, and Randy Rottler hoped to start a small winery. After meeting and discussing some preliminary business ideas, Randy and Ed took a third partner and created a dynamic partnership, starting a small winery and vineyard.
Now a farm winery producing world-class wines which embody the best terroir and fruit the Midwest has to offer. The beautiful barn that houses the tasting room of Carpenter Creek Cellars hasn't always had the pristine vintage look it has today.
Ed's first grapes were planted in 2002, with the help of his son Byron.
We started 1.1 acres of Traminette. This Midwestern grape produces Indiana's signature wine.
Built in 1919 by Ed Courtright's grandfather, the barn has been passed down through the family, initially housing draft horses, then show horses as Ed's children grew up.
The partners decided to renovate the barn, turning it into a tasting room and production area. The stalls, feed bins and concrete were removed and new concrete was poured.
After two years of building a business, and one year of restoring a barn/planting vineyards/doing paperwork... we opened our doors to the public!
Just six months later, we won awards at the 2013 Indy International! These included a Silver Medal in Gunny White, Sunset Rosé, and Sunset Red. Bronze Medals for both the Gunny Red and the Riesling.

The concrete crew did an excellent job stamping and painting the floors; the next time you visit, be sure to check out the tasting room floor! A new roof was installed, the tasting bar went in, and the production area construction began.
